Childcare and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Program

What you will receive:

  • ASHI certification card (valid for two years) and student book

What you will learn:

This is a fundamental information course for babysitters or home childcare workers, on child safety and basic care techniques for infants and children.  Specific areas covered in this program are:

  • Before the parents leave
  • Playtime
  • Techniques to tame your tots and how to handle the "bedtime blues"
  • We shake rattles, not babies
  • How to handle telephone calls and when a stranger knocks at the door
  • Hand washing
  • Water hazards
  • Infant feeding
  • Child feeding
  • Diapering procedures
  • Infant and child sleep time
  • Providing Emergency Care
  • Basic First Aid
  • Medical emergencies, sudden illness, poisoning, asthma, and diabetic emergencies
  • How to perform child and infant CPR
  • Obstructed airway, child and infant
  • Specific injuries and care

Recommended Course Length:

  • Three to Four hours
