Crisis Intervention for Foster and Adoptive Parents

Since 1997 Piszchala Associates, LLC has been presenting seminars in the field of Crisis Intervention to Foster & Adoptive Parent Agencies.  We have presented at the National Conference of Foster and Adoptive Parents, The New England Foster and Adoptive Parents Annual Convention, and the Annual Connecticut Foster and Adoptive Parents Convention.

This is a very interactive training experience incorporating video presentations, lecture, group discussions and small work group activities.

What you will learn:

  • A crisis development model that teaches you to recognize escalating stages of crisis
  • Proven and effective verbal techniques and strategies to intervene at each stage of a child's crisis cycle
  • Barriers to communication
  • How children cope with crisis
  • Working with the oppositional and defiant child
  • The trap of counter-aggression for Foster and Adoptive Parents
  • How to create a safe environment in your home when working with aggressive children
  • How to process an incident with a child that helps build relationships (life space interview)
  • The importance of proper documentation

Recommended Course Length:

  • Nine hours -  in three 3  hour segments - 
  • 1.)Crisis Development Model, 
  • 2).Counter Aggression (crisis cycle, counter aggression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
