The Oppositional and Defiant Child
What you will receive:
- Certificate of Completion and participants guide
This course is designed for those who may work professionally with children in a school setting, day care center, foster or adoptive parent home.
Course Description:
Children who employ oppositional and defiant behaviors are attempting to catch the adults in their lives in relationship traps. These children typically act out of a sense of frustration over loss of control of their lives. To compensate for this they extend an invitation to the significant adults in their life, via relationship traps. It is important for the adults in these children's lives not to fall victim to these traps, and not employ the seven "No-Lutions" (solutions that don't work).
Topics covered in this training:
- The seven (7) relationship traps of the ODC and how to avoid them
- Understanding insult behaviors of children by which they attempt to "push your buttons" and have you fall into the Counter Aggression Trap.
- Develop pro-active strategies for these relationship traps by learning your weak spots, preparing a response ahead of time and rehearsing it
- Exploring the OD child's motivation for attacking you
